Yeti Engraving Guide

Does Engraving Void a Yeti Warranty?

It is the question we get asked most before someone sends their Yeti in. Here is the honest answer, what engraving actually does to the bottle, and what to check first.

The short answer

It can. Engraving by an independent engraver is a third party modification, and manufacturers like YETI may decline a warranty claim on an item that has been modified. Treat engraving as the point where your manufacturer warranty may no longer apply, and check YETI's current warranty terms if that matters to you.

Engraving does not damage the bottle. The laser only removes the outer powder coat. It does not touch the vacuum seal, the lid or the inner wall.

Why engraving can affect the warranty

A manufacturer warranty covers the product as it left the factory. Once someone else changes the outside finish, the manufacturer can no longer be sure a later fault has nothing to do with that change, so many brands exclude modified items. That is a policy decision by the brand, not a sign the engraving harmed the bottle.

Your rights for faults that have nothing to do with engraving are a separate question. If you are unsure, ask YETI directly before you engrave.

Does engraving affect how a Yeti performs?

No. A Yeti keeps drinks hot or cold because of the vacuum gap between its double steel walls. Laser engraving works on the powder coat on the outside surface only, revealing the steel underneath. Insulation, the lid seal and dishwasher performance stay the same.

What does change is the look, and it is permanent. The engraving will not peel or fade, but it also cannot be removed, which is why we send a proof first.

Check these before you send your Yeti in

  • Use it for a few days first and make sure it holds temperature properly
  • Check the lid seals and there are no dents near the base
  • Raise any existing fault with the retailer or YETI before engraving
  • Double check names, dates and spelling on your proof
  • Pack it well if posting, especially anything with a handle or straw lid

What about YETI's own customisation?

YETI offers customisation on some new products through its own website, which keeps everything under the one brand. An independent engraver is the better fit if you already own the Yeti, want a full wrap or kids artwork, need a club or business logo across a batch, or want other brands like Stanley and Frank Green engraved too.

Frequently asked questions

Does engraving void a Yeti warranty?

It can. Third party engraving is a modification, and YETI may not cover a modified item. Check YETI's current warranty terms before engraving if cover matters to you.

Does laser engraving damage a Yeti?

No. The laser removes only the outer powder coat to reveal the steel underneath. The insulation and lid are not affected.

Can engraving be removed later?

No. Laser engraving is permanent, which is why you approve a proof before anything is engraved.

Is an engraved Yeti still dishwasher safe?

The engraving itself will not wash off. Follow YETI's own care instructions for your model, which are the same with or without engraving.
